Information Broker
We serve as a resource, providing our investors with information that helps them be more effective and knowledgeable in pursuing their own philanthropic efforts. We regularly share information about VPP, our nonprofit investment partners, the activities of other investors and stakeholders as well as about trends and developments in the nonprofit and philanthropic fields in the National Capital Region and, where possible, nationally.

Investor Events
VPP's Speaker Series brings together VPP investors on topics of interest to them. Recent events have included:

  • An evening with Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Muhammad Yunus;
  • A dialogue with Gates Foundation CEO Patty Stonesifer;
  • An interactive session with global philanthropist Ted Turner;
  • A private reception hosted by Steve and Jean Case at the Case Foundation to bring the investor community together with VPP's investment partners;
  • Private screenings of the documentary films "Kicking It" and "Nanking" both of which were produced by VPP Investor and filmanthropist Ted Leonsis and which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
  • A dialogue with Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors President and CEO Melissa Berman on developing a philanthropic roadmap;
  • A discussion with DC Public Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee on her reform efforts;
  • A session led by Charles Collier, Senior Philanthropic Advisor at Harvard University on helping individuals and families achieve their philanthropic mission; and a
  • Breakfast gathering on the state of children in the region.
    VPP has also convened smaller, roundtable sessions, as well as informal gatherings at the homes of VPP investors. Summaries of past events are available on the investor-only section of VPP's website.

Online Services
We provide a number of online services, including an online investor forum, driven via email exchange, to keep our investors better informed of our work at VPP. Through this forum, we are able to share targeted, pertinent news about individual philanthropic, civic, or business activities And we are able to provide our investors with a forum for exchanging ideas. In addition, we give our investors exclusive, secured access to the extensive analysis we have conducted on our investment partners as a potential tool for their own philanthropic efforts.

Communications
VPP regularly communicates to investors about our work and the fields of philanthropy and nonprofits. Investors receive:

  • VPPNews: a monthly enewsletter distributed to more than 2,000 thought leaders that reports on VPP’s investment partners, the work of our investors and notable happenings in the field;
  • VPP Investor Updates: periodic online distributions to keep investors up to date about VPP's investment partnerships with nonprofits, our overall progress, and innovations in the field;
  • VPP Online Investor Forum: an online exchange where we share news about activities in which our investors are involved outside of VPP. This Forum also provides on opportunity for direct exchange among the VPP investor families.

Investor Profiles
VPP investors have a chance to learn about the other investors and their philanthropic efforts through profiles. These profiles include an overview of an investor's philanthropic philosophy, areas of focus and projects and initiatives. They provide the group with deeper context to better understand and connect with each other's activity.

Investor Orientation
Periodically, VPP holds orientation sessions to provide new investors with a comprehensive overview of our approach, give them the opportunity to meet the VPP partners and staff, share news about their other philanthropic efforts, and explore ways to more deeply engage with VPP.
