Cheryl Collins is senior advisor to the Morino Institute
and vice president, operations for the Morino Group. She began working
with Mario Morino, the founder of Morino Institute, in October 1992,
during the "discovery/journey" phase that led to the formation
of the Institute in April 1994. Since then, she has served in key
behind-the-scenes roles with the ventures of the for-profit Morino
Group and nonprofit Morino Institute, including the Potomac KnowledgeWay
Project, the Netpreneur Program, the Youth Development Collaborative
(YDC) Pilot, the YouthLearn Initiative, and, most recently, Venture
Philanthropy Partners. She administers the Morino Institute grant
program and the Morino family scholars program that provides student
scholarships at several colleges and universities. Her operations
and advisor roles have encompassed a diverse set of responsibilities,
including technology management, editorial oversight, web production,
knowledge management, and research. Before moving to Northern Virginia
in October 1991, Cheryl worked with students in grades 7-12 teaching
English, journalism, and creative writing and was a program advisor
at the Arkansas Department of Education, where she worked with school
districts to assist them in the implementation of K-12 gifted programs.
She has a BA from Hendrix College, a master's of education in elementary
administration from Harding University, and a master's of education
in gifted and talented education from the University of Arkansas at
Little Rock.
