Robert G. Templin Jr. is the president of
Northern Virginia Community College, the largest college in
the Virginia Community College System. He also serves as a
senior advisor to the Morino Institute, where he formerly
served as senior fellow, assisting in the development and
launch of Venture Philanthropy Partners and focusing on the
issue of helping people in low-income communities improve
their lives through educational and economic opportunity.
Templin came to the Morino Institute after serving for five
years as the president of Virginia's Center for Innovative
Technology, a state-funded organization that focuses upon
enhancing Virginia's economic competitiveness through technology-based
economic development. While at CIT, he served as founding
chairman of the Virginia Commercial Space Flight Authority
that oversaw the building of the nation's third spaceport
for commercial space launches. Templin was president of Thomas
Nelson Community College in Hampton from 1986-1994, and was
dean of instruction at Piedmont Virginia Community College
from 1978-1986. He has also served as assistant professor
of education and continuing education at the University of
Virginia and as dean of the college at Somerset Community
College in Somerset, Kentucky.
